Catalina Island Triathlon, Duathlon, & 5K

Will this be a sanctioned event?
Yes the Catalina Island Triathlon will be sanctioned by USA Triathlon

May I use an iPod or other device for music?
iPod or other music devices are NOT allowed and if our staff sees that you are wearing one you will be DQ’ed from the race.

Do I need a helmet and bike check?
Bike checks are not necessary, it is up to you to have your bike in good working order. You will absolutely need a sanctioned helmet and it must be buckled before you leave the transition area.

How do I get my bike to the island?

You may book a ticket on the Catalina Express when you make your reservation. There is an additional cost for the bike and make sure to reserve your bike EARLY, there are limited spots available on each boat scheduled.

Are bikes available to rent?
There are bike rental companies in Avalon, but we cannot guarantee that they will have a bike for you or that fits. We recommend calling Browns Bikes prior to your arrival to reserve and confirm a bike.

Where do I pick up get my bib number and race packet?
Packet Pickup is located at the Island Spa on Crescent. Packet Pickup will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Pacific Time on Friday. If you are unable to pick up your packet on Friday, you can pick up your packet on race morning at the stage in downtown Avalon.

Can a friend pick up my Participant Race Packet?
Yes, someone can pick-up your packet and registration materials if you cannot make it to packet pick-up.

You MUST provide ALL:

  • A copy of your valid driver’s license or photo identification card (Smartphone picture will be accepted)

  • A signed and printed out Event Waiver

  • A signed BIB Authorization Form

WE WILL BE UNABLE TO RELEASE YOUR BIB TO ANOTHER PERSON WITHOUT THIS INFORMATION. 

Can I register on race weekend?
Absolutely! One can register at Packet Pickup from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, before the race in Avalon or on race morning at the Stage in downtown Avalon.

Can I transfer my registration to someone else?
No. We do not allow transferring of registrations.

Are there refunds?
CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY: This is a live event. The Cancellation/Refund policy is non-negotiable.  Our cancellation/refund policy is that your registration and any related fees are not refundable.  Refunds will not be issued at any time after purchase for any reason.  We understand that last minute emergencies and unforeseen events happen, but the Cancellation/Refund policy will be applied without exception.  No refunds will be issued even if the event is cancelled or postponed due to an act of God or government mandates.

Are there deferrals?
Deferrals are not allowed for this event.

Are baby joggers, strollers, roller blades, dogs or bicycles allowed in any event?
No they are not. The courses are unfriendly to baby joggers/strollers/roller blades.

May I exchange my event shirt for a different size at Packet Pickup?
Yes! If the shirt does not t fit the way you like, you can exchange on the spot at Packet Pickup!

Will there be a gear check?
Yes, if you would like to leave gear behind, you may do so at the Stage in downtown Avalon right by the finish line. We are not responsible for lost or stolen property.

Is there an official race photographer?
There sure is! The Catalina Island Triathlon will have photographs. In the days following the race you will receive an email from the photography company with proofs of your photos that one may purchase.

Will there be water stations and medical on the course?
There will be water stations at the transition and on the run course. You must have your own bike bottle for the bike ride. Medical will be available at Wrigley Stage during the race.

How do I get to the island and is this included in my entry fee?
Entry fee does not include transportation to the Island.  The principal means of travel to Catalina Island is via the Catalina Express which serves Long Beach, San Pedro, and Dana Point.

Are the streets in Avalon closed to traffic?
We do not close the streets to traffic but major intersections are patrolled by LA County Sheriffs and there is light traffic in general on the island. There are very few cars in Avalon and most vehicular traffic is in the form of golf carts.
